The Rune Dust
Long ago when the world was still young, all the earth’s magic was supplied by mysterious stones known as ‘Rune Stones’. These stones were very plentiful and a recyclable resource. However; as useful as they were, it was such a chore to refuel them with magical energy after they were all used up. So the world’s magical geniuses began researching ways to make using magic easier… and they found it.
They devised a theory that if Runes were broken down into dust after being supercharged with their element, the dust could be injected into the bloodstream, where the element would circulate through the body, making the carrier of this element a living Obelisk. After many hypothesis, debates, and experiments, the theory was a success, thus starting an age in time known as the Dust Era.
During the Dust Era, Rune Stones were broken down into concentrated states and injected into a being’s bloodstream, where the elemental powers would flow and regenerate. This technology was a scientific breakthrough and made Rune Stones obsolete.
Later on, another idea was proposed; one that would take every Dust Eelement and mix them together, creating an OmniDust. After another process of research, debates, and experiments, the first OmniMage was created.
Soon afterwards, more and more people became OmniMages and everyone could use every Dust Rune there was; however, an unsuspecting event occurred that would change the way the world viewed magic forever.
Because a large percent of the world’ population were OmniMages, when these magical beings reproduced, their elements blended. Some elements overpowered others drastically, and as the generations continued, the Dust Rune DNA began to clash and weaken to the point where only a single element was dominant.
Before long, it was so bad that some people could no longer call forth their magical powers. Since the Dust Era brought forth the extinction of Rune Stones, the uncommon few that are able to use the Dust Runes are known as Dust Mages.
The most common Dust Mages can only use one specific Dust Element, but in extremely rare cases, people have been known to use multiple Dust Elements.
